Juniperus communis, as juniper is botanically called, has been an integral part of the beverage world for centuries. It became best known through gin – but its history goes back much further. For our aperitif JUNIPER it takes center stage. And very deliberately so.
What makes juniper so special?
Juniperus communis is an evergreen shrub that grows across the entire Northern Hemisphere – from Europe to North America to Asia. Its dark berries are the heart of it: intensely aromatic, with an unmistakable taste.
Typical for juniper is this special combination of:
- fresh pine needles
- subtle citrus notes
- a delicate, peppery spice
The result? Fresh, slightly tart, complex – with just the right amount of bitterness that makes an aperitif exciting.
